To honor International Women’s Day this year, we celebrate the achievements of women around the world, starting with those in our city. Throughout the month of March, we will be sharing stories from female entrepreneurs running shops and businesses of all sizes here in Chicago.
Meet Wolfbait & B-girls
Wolfbait is a fashion, accessories and gift boutique featuring over 250 local designers, right here in Chicago.
Wolfbait is a female-owned and operated independent business, fashioned by two native designers, Shirley Kienitz and Jenny Stadler. Their respective collections, Bruiser and Brazen judy, are executed in-house from concept to consumer. This creates an intimate environment for a unique shopping experience. Wolfbait has been a one-stop shop for unique but practical clothing, playful accessories, and one-of-a-kind handcrafted treasures for 15 years!

Shirley, what made you start Wolfbait & B-girls?
Jenn and I are both makers ourselves. The need for a studio space as well as a retail venue we could share with like minded creatives brought about the Bait!
Have there been any challenges you have had to overcome as a woman-owned business?
Small business is challenging regardless of gender, and even more so as of late. Our passion for this people-driven project has helped us overcome countless obstacles.
Do you have any advice for other women thinking of opening up their own businesses?
I hate to give advice because I hate to take it. If pressed I would say let your goals be intrinsic to find the most satisfying path.
Thank you, Shirley, for all you do and for being such an important part of the local Chicago community!
